Professor DAVID HOWE worked, until his recent retirement, in the Centre for Research on the Child and Family at the University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK. Prof. Howe has extensive experience in research, children and families and teaching. This conference should be of interest to social workers in all areas of practice, as Prof. Howe will look at attachment issues throughout the life cycle.

1. University College Cork is planning an event on the morning of 16th March at UCC to celebrate WSWD. They will invite IASW Southern Branch committee and members, academics, practitioners, practice teachers and MSW/BSW students. They are working on the theme and publicity material for our UCC website and will send on to me for the IFSW web. They will give their students a lead role in organising the event. They plan to have a collection for Haiti on the day.
2. National University of Ireland Galway will coordinate local social events for Social workers in the Galway region in partnership with the local branch of the Irish association of Social Workers on the evening of March 16th. This is purely a light hearted social event to celebrate the profession of Social Work
3. Trinity College School of social Work and Social Policy will also be holding an event on March 29th with speakers lined up for a special workshop themed around Social Development looking at the Schools research into Age & Disability . Presentation 1 - Living with Dementia – Dr Suzanne Cahill. Presentation 2. Disability – Zoe Hughes PhD student, National Institute of Intellectual Disability
4. A partnership day between HSE/Barnardos /NSWQB/UCD and the Minster for Children’s office. This event will take place on the 25th of March owing to availability restrictions of the Minster. Event will start at 1.15 in lecture Theatre BOO4, Health Sciences Centre, UCD. Dublin 4. Title of Event Social Work and Social Development: Celebrating the contribution of social work to children & families service, A national event in association with the 4th World Social Work day. Opening address Mr Barry Andrews, Minster for Children followed By Mr Phil Garland Asst National Director C&F. Key Note Speeches Prof Colette McAuley, UCD and Prof Brid Featherstone NUI Galway. Closing address - Ms Slyda Langford. The event will close at 4.00pm
5. On March 16th Social Workers in Kildare Enable Ireland service have arranged an open house session and invited their Social work colleagues form HSE Community Care locations that they deal with. They will have food and information sessions and will seek donations for the Haiti relief fund.
6. On March 16th the children of Sandymount Special School are organising an event to mark World Social Work Day with the Social Work team of Enable Irelands Disability service in Sandymount
