LGB People & Inclusive Practice

 In Association with

IASW & GLEN

Providing an Accessible and Appropriate Service to Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual (LGB) People

While social workers may be familiar with gay and lesbian issues, LGB service users can fear disclosing their sexual orientation to professionals and can experience barriers when accessing health and social services.

This half-day training is being provided by the Gay & Lesbian Equality Network (GLEN) in collaboration with the Irish Association of Social Workers to assist social workers to develop a greater understanding of:

  • LGB issues, concepts and language use
  • The particular needs of LGB service users and the barriers LGB people can face in accessing health and support services
  • The principles of inclusive practice and providing an accessible and appropriate service to LGB people

The training will be suitable for people who are new to the subject and those familiar with it.  The aim is to support social workers from a range of practice areas to reflect on the needs of their LGB clients and explore ways of providing services that are inclusive of LGB people.
