  • Introduction to ERA and the campaign objectives
  • What is meant by the equality and human rights infrastructure?

A brief history of the development and dismantling of the infrastructure

  • The importance of independent and effective equality and human rights bodies (I can use case studies here with the group to illustrate the potential of the bodies to promote equality, prevent discrimination and protect human rights)
  • ERA campaign to lobby for a strengthened infrastructure- the case for a positive duty for public sector bodies

Title –“ Has Europe Lost its Heart”

The input will look at how social policy has developed in the EU with a particular focus on policy to address poverty and social exclusion. It will also look at the current challenges in the context of the recession,  the responses to it and the impact on the most vulnerable in our society. Finally it will highlights some of the national campaigns to try to oppose the cuts and propose an alternative way forward.
