Parental drug use can and does have serious consequences for parenting and for child welfare. Aidan and Chloe, social workers at the NDTC, will present their research which examined admissions to care of children whose parents attended the NDTC. The study identifies factors which contributed to reunification of children and families from the perspectives of parents and social workers and highlights factors which support parents to progress in rehabilitation and to achieve standards in appropriate and safe parenting.

Dr Eamon Keenan is Consultant Psychiatrist in Substance Misuse and Acting Clinical Director in the National Drug Treatment Centre.

Dr Shay Keating is Medical Officer to the National Drug Treatment Centre and specialist in the treatment of Sexual Health and Hepatitis C.
