EPIC is a national advocacy service that works with young people who are in care or who have had care experience.

What Do You Think Now? - EPIC

Have a look at this short about perceptions of people with care experience created by the EPIC Youth Board

This seminar will be presented by Joanne Seery and Larissa Comiskey, advocacy officers with EPIC (empowering people in care).  Prior to joining EPIC Joanna worked as a link worker with foster carers. Larissa has been working as an advocacy officer with EPIC for the past eight years.  Prior to this she worked as Co ordinator with the Family Welfare Conference service in Dublin and as child protection social worker.

This seminar will

  • Provide social workers with an in depth look at how children and young people get their voice heard through EPIC’s advocacy work.
  • Through the exploration of real case examples social workers will get an insight into EPIC’s advocacy work in action – what it is and how it works.
  • Hear directly from care experienced young people on what works for them.
  • Give participants an opportunity to engage in discussion around the benefits and the challenges of engaging with young people and provide some practical advice.
  • Explore how the independent advocate and the social worker can work in partnership in the best interest of the child.
