Speaker Biographies

Bernadette Casey BSSc (Hon) degree, MA MSc became a professionally qualified social worker in 2001, Trinity College Dublin. She later completed MSc (Hon) in Equality Studies, UCD. She is a Senior Case Worker for the protection of older people since 2007 when the service was first established nationally by HSE. Within this role Bernadette manages and co-ordinates the response to elder abuse and neglect cases, and provides training to staff across the sector for older people on how to recognise and respond to risks of abuse, neglect and self -neglect. She is a professional social work supervisor and is one of the first independent and accredited mediators in Ireland to train in Elder Mediator to international standard. Bernadette was involved in the designing and delivery the National Advocacy Independent Service (NAPA) program with UCD, HSE, Third Age agency. Over the years Bernadette provided staff training on later life issues, advanced mediation skills training workshops, seminars on social work topics and is an occasional college lecturer on equality and human rights issues relating to older people. She is an IASW member for the past eighteen years and is a CORU registered Social Worker.
