Social Workers In Probation

The Probation SIG was established in late 2011, and is fully supported by the Director of Probation. The Group initially was working with the IMPACT Probation Branch on looking at issues for Probation Officers in regard to Registration.

The Probation SIG held their AGM on 12th June 2015 and the following executive officer were elected: chairperson: Saragh McGarrigle, secretary: Darren Broomfield and treasurer; Majella Hickey.

The Probation SIG aims to support colleagues in continuous professional development (CPD) and to promote best practice in the interest of our service users. The Probation SIG will do this through organising CPD events, providing peer support and promoting a culture of CPD in different formats. The Probation SIG will also continue to be active within the IASW, thus promoting the role of Probation Officers within the national orgainsation of social workers. This work includes a representative from the SIG attending Council meetings as well as contributing to IASW submissions, policies and position papers on issues affecting our client group and the social work profession at local and national level.

We will circulate a schedule of our meetings for the rest of the year shortly.

NEXT MEETING: The Probation Special Interest Group meeting will be held on Thursday 25th February at 1pm in Probation Office, Haymarket Building, Smithfield, Dublin 7

All probation staff welcome.

Saragh McGarrigle

Chair - IASW Probation SIG
