The IFSW theme for World Social Work Day 2025 is Strengthening Intergenerational
Solidarity for Enduring Wellbeing.

The webinar will discuss:

• Why an intergenerational perspective in social work is so important now
• How social workers can support each other across the generations
• Examples of intergenerational social work practice in Europe.
• Consider and celebrate the transformational power of intergenerational approaches

In IFSW Europe, the new social workers group and the representatives for social work and
ageing have joined together to create a webinar that bridges the generations.

Programme
18.30 - Welcome and introduction to the World Social Work Day theme
Dr Ruth Allen, IFSW Europe President

18.40 - Experiences of social work across the generations

We will hear from three social workers: a new social worker with less than 3
years experience, a social worker with 25 years experience and a social
worker with 50 years experience
Each will talk for 5 minutes about their experience of connecting with other
social workers

19.00 - Two examples of intergenerational social work
We will hear from two projects of intergenerational social work
Each will talk for 15 minutes about their work

19.30 - Discussion
We will then have a general discussion about: how we can support each
other across the generations, how we can develop more intergenerational
social work
